Import Interactive Brokers into Turbobulls

Export a Flex Query or Activity Statement from Interactive Brokers and import it in a couple of minutes. What gets brought across, and what does not.
Import Interactive Brokers into Turbobulls
Interactive Brokers gives you two ways to export your history. One of them is much better for importing, and it is not the obvious one.
Interactive Brokers suits investors holding across several markets and currencies, which is exactly the case where a broker's own dashboard stops being enough. Once your history is imported you get one consolidated view across every broker you use, with cost basis kept per lot and dividends carrying the tax withheld at source.
The steps below were correct as of August 2026. Brokers redesign their reporting screens regularly, so if a menu has moved, tell us at hello@turbobulls.com and we will fix the page. IBKR's own report guide is the authority if anything here disagrees with what you see.

Export Your Data From Interactive Brokers

Two export formats work. Flex Query is the one to use if you are setting this up properly, because you control which sections are included and you can re-run the same query each year.

1

Sign in and open Performance & Reports → Flex Queries → Activity Flex Query.

2

Click the + icon to start a new Flex Query.

3

Under Sections, enable each of these and leave their default options alone:

  • Cash Transactions - select every option except Summary
  • Corporate Actions - keep only Details
  • Trades - keep only Execution
  • Transfers - keep only Transfer
4

In each of those sections, tick Select All so every column is included.

5

Set Format to CSV, Date Format to yyyy-MM-dd, and Time Format to HH:mm:ss.

6

Save the query, then run it from the arrow button next to its row.

7

Pick your date range and download. IBKR caps each export at one year, so re-run the query once per year you want to import.

Option 2: Default Statement (legacy)

The older one-click export. Still parsed, and useful if you already have CSVs from before you set up a Flex Query.

1
Open Performance & Reports → Statements.
2
Pick Activity from the statement type dropdown.
3
Choose your date range.
4
Set Format to CSV.
5
Hit View / Run and download the file.

Import Into Turbobulls

1

On the Portfolio page, click Import. The list of sources opens on Investments, rather than bank statements.

2

Pick Interactive Brokers from the broker list, then upload your file. If the file does not match the broker you picked, the import says it could not read it and suggests the generic CSV or another source, so a wrong choice here is easy to undo.

3

On Check what we found, anything Turbobulls could not read is listed with the reason, under Notes on your file, before anything is written.

4

Map the brokers if you want to. IBKR settles each transaction against a per-currency cash balance, so for a Flex Query file Goes into lists them separately as Interactive Brokers USD, Interactive Brokers EUR and so on. One you do not track yet is added as a new broker in its currency when you go on; to use a broker you already track, pick it with Use another broker. A Default Statement comes in as a single Interactive Brokers: if you track no broker by that name, pick the one it goes into.

5

Review, then import. On Review before importing, rows that duplicate transactions you already have are flagged as Already here and left out. Click Import: the write is atomic, so either the whole file lands or none of it does. There is no half-imported state to clean up.

Once it is in, check each IBKR broker's cash against IBKR's own statement. In Portfolio, Activity → Cash at brokers lists every move with the balance after it, and says whether the closing balance you type in matches.

What Gets Imported

From your statementBecomes
Trade executions, positive quantityBuy
Trade executions, negative quantitySell
DividendsDividend, matched to the holding
Withholding tax on dividendsRecorded against the dividend
Deposits and withdrawalsCash in and cash out
Transfers between currency balancesCash moves, paired
Withholding tax on interestBroker expense

Cost basis is kept per lot, so each purchase keeps its own price and date rather than collapsing into a blended average. That matters later for gains, and it is close to impossible to reconstruct once lost.

Known Limitations

Stated plainly, because finding these after an import is worse than knowing first.

  • Unsupported asset classes are skipped, with the row and reason shown in the preview rather than silently dropped.
  • Dividends that cannot be matched to a holding are skipped and listed. This usually means the description did not contain a recognisable symbol.
  • Trade rows missing a date, symbol or direction are skipped, again with the reason.
  • Some cash transaction types are skipped. The preview names the type so you can decide whether to add it by hand.
  • One year per export. IBKR's limit, not ours. Several years means several files, which import fine one after another because duplicates are flagged.
  • This is a file import, not a connection. There is no API link or automatic sync to IBKR, and there will not be: your data is encrypted on your device before it is stored, which makes a background sync impossible rather than merely unbuilt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Flex Query or Activity Statement?

Flex Query, if you are willing to spend five minutes setting it up once. You control which sections are included, the columns are complete, and re-running it each year gives you a consistent file. The Activity Statement is fine for a one-off or for CSVs you already have.

Q: Can I import several years?

Yes, as several files. IBKR caps each export at one year, so run the query once per year and import them in any order. The preview flags anything that duplicates transactions already in your account, so overlapping ranges do not double up your holdings.

Q: Why does it show Interactive Brokers USD and Interactive Brokers EUR separately?

Because IBKR settles each transaction against a per-currency cash balance under one account number. Surfacing them separately lets you map each to the broker entity you already track, and keeps the currency side of your history honest. You can map them to a single broker if you would rather.

Q: Does it connect to my IBKR account automatically?

No, and it will not. Imports are file-based because your data is encrypted on your device before it reaches us, which means we cannot read it and cannot fetch on your behalf. You download a file and upload it.

Q: What if something does not import?

The preview lists every skipped row with the reason before anything is written, so you see it in advance rather than discovering a gap later. Anything genuinely missing can be added by hand, and if the reason looks wrong, send us the case at hello@turbobulls.com.
